Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH)
FORTH consists of several research clusters, dedicated to Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL), Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB), Computer Science (ICS), Applied and Computational Mathematics (IACM), Mediterranean Studies (IMS), and Chemical Engineering (ICE-HT).
The ACCELERATE Project is part of the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL), a multidisciplinary collection of researchers covering the fields of Laser Science & Photonics, Micro/Nano-Electronics, Polymer Science, Material Science, and Astrophysics.
The IESL also develops Photon Science Applications, of which one is the use of Photonics for Cultural Heritage.
About the Research Fellow
Niklas Hausmann did his PhD at the University of York under the supervision of Prof Geoff Bailey. Before this he took his first degree in Archaeology and Geosciences at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, Germany, and his MA in Archaeology at the University of York.
His research interests are prehistoric archaeology, coastal environments and geoarchaeology, with a focus on sclerochronology and climate change. Niklas has field experience in Brazil, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Scandinavia, Spain and the UK.
His role in the ACCELERATE Project is to develop methods of trace-element analysis of marine molluscs from shell mounds sites around the world and obtain information on seasonality, climate change and site formation processes.
